Spent the afternoon browsing The Mennollo Museum of American Art which houses (and owns) a large amount of pieces by the late Earl Cunningham.
Despite being a fan of naive and folk art I had never come across Earl before, a fascinating character who came to reside and run a small gallery close by in St Augustine.
Despite paining for most of his life his style never really changed and almost all of his works are oil on fiberboard. He hoarded his paintings and rarely sold to those who inquired. His self imposed death lead to his paintings becoming available on the market as well as more widely exhibited where he has gained a cult following.
